Tölva, 2023
Tölva: the Icelandic word for ‘Computer’, translated directly as ‘Number Oracle’.
I began making this 3D printed computer sculpture in 2021 during the Artwell Residency Program, and have been using it since for creating my film, 3D rendered and sculptural works.
Because my computer is such a conduit for my works, it made sense to build one which has a character of its own.
The design started with a hand shaped clay form, which I 3D scanned. I then manipulated the scanned shape digitally to fit in all the computer’s components, and using a generative design function I digitally grew the tendril-like support structure. The total shape was then 3D printed to become the housing for the computer.
Tölva was exhibited during the “Hunger & Focus” exhibition at Artwell Residencies in 2021.
